AUSTRALIA'S 12 million credit card holders put a record $14,000 each on plastic over the past year, but consumer advocates said a jump in cash advances indicated some families were under financial pressure.
There was a surprise 9 per cent rise in cash advances drawn on credit in May, the latest credit card figures from the Reserve Bank revealed. The unprecedented $3.27 million cash advances were worth $998 million. The total debt outstanding on cards rose to $30.8 billion in May. SMH
